YogaLoft Teachers

Annemarie Caracciolo, Alice Barclay & Sue Shaw are qualified Iyengar Yoga teachers.

Iyengar Yoga classes for all

All Iyengar yoga teachers are trained to rigorously high standards.  After three years of regular practise with an Iyengar teacher, prospective teachers then train for three years followed by an assessment.  Once qualified we are required to continue training and complete professional development each year. This ensures that the care and precision of Iyengar yoga is maintained. These high standards are part of the reason Iyengar Yoga is the most widely performed method of yoga worldwide.  Our Certification Mark  is the guarantee of this quality.

Wednesday 6.00-7.15pm

Annemarie first began yoga as a teenager in New York and discovered the Iyengar method when she came to Bristol in 1997.  She immediately recognised the benefits that Iyengar yoga could bring: a feeling of well-being, calm and challenge.  She loves its lineage, rigorous methodology, and clarity. She was inspired to teach after attending the 2009 UK convention taught by Geeta Iyengar (BKS Iyengar’s daughter). She holds a Level 3 certification and has taken classes at the Ramamani Iyengar Institute (RIMYI) in Pune.

Annemarie was physically active from as far back as she can remember, swimming in the sea and studying martial arts from a young age.  She was a keen runner and completed half marathons in 2004 and 2005.  She  cycles and enjoys mountain walks and outdoor swimming.

She also brings to her teaching a wealth of experience from working for over 20 years in leadership, communication and team development.  She is the author of Smart Things to Know About Teams (Capstone, 1999) and values the connections people make while practising yoga together.

Wednesday 1.00-2.00pm

I discovered yoga in my mid twenties and was immediately drawn to the sense of feeling at ease it gave me, both in mind and body.  After several years of practicing other styles of yoga, I was introduced to Iyengar Yoga.  The Iyengar method transformed my own yoga completely and led me, in time, to train and qualify to become a Level 1 Iyengar Yoga Teacher.

The precision and detail of the teaching of Iyengar Yoga has been the key to unlocking the many benefits the practice brings.  I love the teaching framework that is provided. Whatever your starting point, this framework provides you with a path to follow and shows you how to develop your practice. The beauty of Iyengar Yoga is that it really is for anyone.

I am based in Bristol where I live with my husband, our two daughters and our dog. With a previous career working for large corporations in a variety of roles, I understand the impact that today’s pace of life brings. So much to juggle, so little time to fit it all in. I am passionate about helping students find a moment of calm in their busy lives and I feel privileged to share a little of their yoga journey with them.

Friday 9.30-10.30am

Friday 1.00-2.00pm

I went to my first Iyengar class when I was in my late 20s & it has been a huge & important part of my life ever since.  I have sought out Iyengar teachers everywhere I have lived or worked & travelled to India for intensive Iyengar courses.

I love the integrity of Iyengar yoga & the careful attention it gives to alignment which can be transformative; I love too the humility it encourages in those who practise.  As a student & a teacher of Iyengar yoga I value its accessibility & the way it can be adapted to work for each individual. The potential for apparently small adjustments to have profound effects on the body, mind & emotions of anyone who practises Iyengar yoga, at any level, energises & inspires my teaching.

I’m also an actor & theatre practitioner with a working life that is unpredictable & ever-changing.  I treasure the balance, steadiness & space offered by Iyengar yoga as well as the opportunity to always learn more, discover & develop understanding.
